The client
An independent restaurant with a vaulted cellar dining room, a rooftop terrace and a loyal local following. The site had been with the same agency for about nine years. Bruno wanted something modern, closer in feel to The Ivy, that the family could run without waiting on anyone else.
A site nobody at the restaurant could change
A WordPress build on a page builder, hosted by the agency. A new menu or an event meant sending a request and waiting, so the site was rarely current.
Menus as files, not pages
Menus lived as uploaded documents. Hard to read on a phone and almost invisible to Google, which is where most people deciding where to eat tonight start.
Email quietly failing checks
The mail records were incomplete. The sender list left out Google, the signing key was malformed and there was no policy record at all. Mail from the restaurant was a candidate for spam folders.
