Web design in Bath, by the person who builds it.
I'm Guy Mitchell, a web designer and software engineer in Bath. I design the site, write the code, run the server it lives on and look after it afterwards — so there is one person to ring, and no gap between the person who drew it and the person who has to make it work.
Recent sites
Professional service businesses, mostly — solicitors, accountants, bookkeepers, therapists. Each one designed, built, deployed and hosted end to end, with nothing lost between a designer, a developer and a host who never speak to each other.
A local designer youcan actuallysit down with.
Why work with
someone in Bath
Plenty of good web design happens over email from three hundred miles away — I do it myself for clients in Melbourne and Athens. But when the business is here, being here helps: I can walk into your office, photograph the premises, meet the people whose names go on the About page, and hand the finished thing over across a table instead of in a video call.
Website design & build
Brochure sites, service businesses, portfolios and one-page launches. Hand-written code rather than a bought theme, so the site is exactly the shape of your business and loads in a fraction of a second on a phone in the middle of Bath with two bars of signal.
Redesigns & rescues
An existing site that has gone slow, gone stale, or gone quiet on Google. I audit what is there, tell you plainly whether it needs rebuilding or just repairing, and give you the honest answer even when the honest answer is cheaper for you.
Local search groundwork
Structured data, semantic markup, sitemaps, Search Console and a Google Business Profile set up properly, so that when someone nearby searches for what you do, the technical side is not the reason you are invisible.
Hosting, care & the boring parts
Servers, SSL, backups, monitoring, DNS, email routing and the quiet monthly maintenance most projects skip after launch. Run on infrastructure I manage and answer for myself, so there is nobody to blame but me.
Web applications
When a website is not enough — booking systems, client portals, dashboards, capture tools and integrations with the software you already run. Twenty years of building real software sits behind this, not a plugin directory.
How it works
Four steps, scoped and priced at the outset, with the same person answering the phone at every one of them.
Understand the job
A conversation — in person if you are nearby — about what the site has to do and what counts as it working.
Shape it
Clear, fast, and unmistakably yours. Not a theme with your logo dropped on top of it.
Engineer it
Built properly and shipped through a pipeline, so releases are boring by design.
Keep it healthy
Deploy, monitor and maintain — the part most projects quietly skip after launch.
Questions
worth asking
Do you only work with businesses in Bath?
No. I'm based in Bath and happy to meet here, in Bristol or anywhere in Somerset, but most projects run perfectly well remotely and I have clients across the UK and abroad. Being local just means you can sit down with the person who will actually build the site.
Do you use WordPress or a page builder?
No. Sites are written as real code, which is why they load in well under a second and don't accumulate plugin updates, security patches and monthly licence fees. If you already have a WordPress site and want to keep it, I'll tell you honestly whether replacing it is worth the money.
How long does a website take?
A small business site is typically three to five weeks from first conversation to launch, depending mostly on how quickly the words and photographs come together at your end. Larger builds with booking, payments or a customer login run longer and get scoped in stages, so you always know what the next step costs before you commit to it.
Do you handle hosting and domain names?
Yes. I run the servers myself, so hosting, SSL, backups, monitoring and DNS come as part of the service rather than four separate accounts you have to remember the passwords for. If you'd rather host it elsewhere, the site is yours and it will run anywhere.
What happens after it launches?
You deal with the same person who built it. No ticket queue, no account manager relaying messages to a developer you never meet. Most clients stay on a maintenance arrangement covering hosting, updates and small changes as they think of them.
Will my site show up on Google?
Every site ships with clean semantic markup, structured data, a sitemap and Search Console configured — the technical groundwork search engines need. Ranking for competitive terms on top of that takes good content and time. I'll tell you which of the two your business actually needs, rather than selling you a monthly SEO retainer that quietly does neither.
