Design for the E-Oikonomiki Thessaloniki accountancy website

E-Oikonomiki is an accountancy practice in Thessaloniki and Alexandria Imathias, established in 1993. They wanted a modern site in Greek and English that their own staff could keep current, without losing anything the old site had earned.

The client

A long-established firm serving businesses and individuals across northern Greece, working with a brand designer of their own. I worked to her brand guidelines and content structure, from Bath, with the project run remotely in English and Greek.

Before

An ageing content system

The old site ran on a content management system maintained by another agency. It worked, but it was hard to change and it looked its age.

Before

English that could never rank

Both languages were tangled together, so search engines saw one muddled page. The English version had no address of its own to rank or share.

Before

Leads with nowhere to go

No way to download a guide, sign up for news or be tracked as an enquiry, which made it impossible to tell what the site was actually doing for the firm.

What I
recommended

Keep the firm's identity, give each language its own proper home, and hand the parts that change every week to the people who know them.

01 / Concepts

Show, don't describe

Several complete design directions as working pages. The firm chose its direction and kept its original emblem, redrawn cleanly rather than replaced.

02 / Brand

Their designer's rules

Logo, palette and type from the firm's own brand designer applied throughout. No invented claims, no stock clichés.

03 / Structure

Greek first

Greek at the root, English under its own address, each page in one language with the search-engine tags that link the pair.

04 / Handover

Theirs to run

An editor for people and news, analytics and tag management carried over, and every old address redirected.

What was
built

01

A bilingual site, done properly

Twenty-eight pages: company, services, team, news, guides, contact, thank-you and policy pages, in both languages. Each language has its own address, so Greek and English can both be found and shared.

02

A team and news editor

Staff sign in to add a colleague, change a photo or publish a news story in Greek and English. Every save keeps the previous version. Unpublished drafts are never shown to the public.

03

Guides and newsletter

Downloadable guides with a discreet prompt and separate marketing consent, and newsletter sign-up feeding straight into the firm's own Mailjet account.

04

Measurement from day one

Google Analytics, Tag Manager and Search Console carried across, with clicks to call, emails, form sends, guide downloads and sign-ups all tracked as conversions.

05

A careful move

The firm's email stays exactly where it is during the switch, and every address from the old site redirects to its new page.

Where it
landed

This one is in final review with the firm and launches on oikonomiki.com.gr shortly. The results section will be filled in with real figures once it has been live long enough to have some.

Now

Ready to launch

All 28 pages built and staged, the editor running, and the move planned so nothing about the firm's email changes.

Now

Owned by the firm

Day-to-day changes to people and news need nobody outside the office.

Now

Both languages findable

English-speaking clients and partners get pages written for them at an address of their own.
